Presenters

George Comiskey, PysD, LCDC, ICPS

George Comiskey has lived in Lubbock since 1988 and has worked in the prevention and addiction field since 1990. He worked as a prevention specialist for the Lubbock Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and for 13 years with the Lubbock Independent School District. Dr. Comiskey is an Internationally Certified Prevention Specialist and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. He is a certified Trauma and Loss Specialist. He has had the honor of working at the Center for Collegiate Recovery Communities at Texas Tech University since 2002, where he teaches, works with recovering students, develops programs and provides outreach to the community.

Kathy Curry, PT, DPT

Kathy Curry is a physical therapist with a total of 36 years of work experience and offering 22 years of experience in pelvic health of women, men and children (incontinence and pelvic pain/dysfunction). Dr. Curry’s work experience includes clinical evaluation and treatment, management and supervision of staff as well as clinical instruction to DPT students interested in pelvic health. Her strengths include gaining successful outcomes with patients, assessing service needs and developing programs to meet those needs, teaching, marketing and working with diverse personalities, all with genuine compassion and humor.

Bob Howell, MEd, LCDC, CRT

Bob Howell works in private practice and as a trauma consultant for The Ranch at Dove Tree, a treatment facility for adults with dual diagnosis issues. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in counseling, both from Texas Tech University. Bob is a Certified Reality Therapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist, and EMDR trained and specializes in trauma therapy. He was an emergency room technician for eight years, working with Flight for Life, the first air medical program in West Texas. Bob also bravely served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Having maintained a private practice for 20 years he is a periodic contributor to local media in the realm of chemical dependency issues. He frequently provides court testimony in the area of the pharmacology of psychoactive substances and the treatment of addictive disorders to include testimony before the U.S. Federal Courts in Washington D.C.

Kelly Klein, MD, FAAHPM

After medical school and residency at TTUHSC Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Kelly Klein practiced family medicine with obstetrics in her hometown of Littlefield, Texas for over 12 years. She then joined the faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at TTUHSC where she currently works as the Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.

David Long, MD

David Long received his formal training in addiction while earning his undergraduate degree at Texas Tech University. He received his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, followed by residency training where he had interactions with addicts and addiction almost daily. Serving on the "front lines" of urgent care for over 10 years led Dr. Long to research ways to better serve addicts.

Shannon Tapia, MD, FAAFP

Shannon Tapia is board certified in Geriatrics and Family Medicine with a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine. She has expertise and experience in the care of geriatric patients in a wide variety of settings. She is the Director of Area Community Hospice and maintains a solo practice, Direct Senior Care.

Wendy L. Wright, MS, APRN, BC, FAANP, FAAN, FNAP

Wendy L. Wright is a 1992 graduate of the Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and completed a family nurse practitioner post-master’s program in 1995. She is an adult and family nurse practitioner and the owner of Wright & Associates Family Healthcare at Amherst and Concord. Wendy is the past president of Nurse Practitioner Associates for Continuing Education (NPACE) and the senior lecturer for Fitzgerald Health Education Associates. She is the recipient of numerous awards and is an editor for Practice Management. She presents nationally to different audiences and has been a speaker at over 1,000 conferences in 46 states.

Parking

Construction to expand the TTUHSC campus has started. Reserved parking for the NP Conference has been arranged across Texas Tech Parkway on the Northwest side of lot S1. We will have a shuttle available to transport you to and from the conference in the Academic Classroom Building (ACB). (Download parking maps) ADA parking is available in front of the ACB, however these lots can become full.

Please arrive earlier for ample time to get to the conference. The conference will start on time.
